Man urged to run after sharing ‘creepy’ request date made following first meeting

In this day and age, we’re quite happy to share our entire lives online – posting snaps of our meals, our holidays and everything in between.

But will we turn on read receipts and let our pals know we’ve seen their messages?

Absolutely not.

One man recently revealed that he’d been asked to do just this by a person he’d been on a first date with – and the internet had a lot of thoughts about it.

In a post on Twitter the guy named Eric, who tweets under the username @EricD14, shared a photo of the unusual request his latest love interest had sent him.

He was asked to turn his read receipts on (stock photo)

It reads: “On my way to the gym now, can you do me a favour?”

Eric replied: “Yeah, what do you need?”

Shockingly his date said: “Click on my contact, press the ‘I’ then turn on read receipts.”

A dumbfounded Eric simply asked what we’re all thinking: “What!?!”

Eric shared the bizarre exchange on Twitter

He captioned his post on Twitter, saying: “*goes on first date, scared he’ll ghost but instead gets this text*”

It quickly gone viral, garnering over 15,900 likes and has been retweeted over 1,300 times.

Thousands of people also responded to the tweet, with many urging Eric to “run” away immediately.

“Run as far and fast as possible,” instructed one fellow user.

Another commented that the text showed “a dozen red flags”.

A third found the whole thing “creepy”.

Someone else wrote: “I ONLY turn read receipts for ppl that need to know I’m ignoring them.”

“I would click on his contact, but BLOCK his sorry a** instead,” added a fifth person.

A couple of people said they had to Google what a read reciept was.

So in case you didn’t know, a read receipt on an iPhone allows a person who has text you to see when their message has been read – so they’ll know if you’re ignoring them or not.

It’s a bit like the double blue ticks on Whatsapp, only it says READ and to make matters worse, it tells the other person exactly what time their text was seen.

We’ll be leaving ours off, thanks and we hope Eric does too!
