Knott’s Scary Farm 2019 will let you join ghost hunters in a demonic sanitarium, go on a zombie killing spree and flee crazed carnies on an abandoned amusement park ride as the venerable haunted event returns to the fog for another Halloween season.
Halloween Haunt returns to the Buena Park theme park with nine haunted mazes, four scare zones and four shows, Knott’s Berry Farm announced Thursday night.
The lineup for the 47th season of Halloween Haunt was revealed during the sold-out Knott’s Scary Farm announcement event in the park’s Charles M. Schulz Theatre.
Knott’s Scary Farm 2019, the granddaddy of theme park haunted attractions, will run on select nights from Sept. 19 through Nov. 2.
This year’s Haunt will feature two new mazes — Origins: The Curse of Calico and Wax Works — and a raunchy new show — “Puppet Up! Uncensored.”
Let’s take a closer look at the all the mazes, scare zones, shows and other entertainment planned for Knott’s Scary Farm 2019.
Origins: The Curse of Calico
The new Origins: The Curse of Calico haunted maze drops visitors into the middle of witch trial taking place in Knott’s Ghost Town.
As Sarah Marshall stands trial for witchcraft, an evil fog drifts over the Wild West town and unleashes a sinister paranormal force. The Green Witch curses the town and transforms all who accused her into a wicked horde of malicious creatures.
The new Wax Works haunted maze takes over an abandoned wax museum where a once-prominent plastic surgeon has set up shop.
Dr. Augustus Scratch dips his victims in a hot cauldron of bubbling wax to create his terrifyingly lifelike masterpieces. The madman’s gruesome works of art entomb bloody flesh inside a molten layer of wax. Will you join his collection or escape his deadly grip?
Special Ops: Infected
The Special Ops: Infected maze drops you in the middle of an apocalyptic zombie-killing video game.
The backstory for Special Ops: Infected arms participants with a zombie-slaying laser gun in a futuristic version of Calico Ghost Town with a simple mission: Save humanity, one head-shot kill at a time.
Infected will offer a choice of two missions, new special effects and 174 Knott’s-related Easter Eggs hidden throughout the maze.
Two new scenes — a convenience store and a meatpacking warehouse — will be added to the returning Infected maze this year. The tight confines of the warehouse scene will play up the close-quarters combat experience while amping up the anxiety and discomfort levels of the participants.
Two new Infected characters will join the zombie horde for 2019. The undead proprietor of the Hernandez Convenience Store will show up behind the cash register in the boarded-up shop. A zombie butcher in Howe’s Meatpacking Warehouse will pop out of a freezer wearing a bloodied white apron.
Haunt 2019 will be the final year for the popular Infected attraction that began in 2014 in Camp Snoopy before moving to the Mystery Lodge.
Go behind the scenes of an abandoned amusement park ride overrun by crazed carnies in the Dark Ride maze.
The Dark Ride maze that debuted in 2017 takes visitors inside the abandoned Castle of Chaos amusement park attraction.
Two new scenes — a surveillance room and a gift shop — will be added to the returning Dark Ride maze this year. The security desk in the surveillance room will feature monitor screens and other interactive elements that display what is happening throughout the abandoned ride. Visitors will exit through the gift shop — just like you would in a real amusement park.
A pair of new Dark Ride characters will join a host of terrifying carnies for 2019.
A crybaby clown who grew up inside the dark ride was cared for by a deranged family of clowns, according to the backstory for the maze. The 6-foot-tall clown wears an adult-sized onesie, panda bear slippers and a clip-on pacifier while carrying a ragged teddy bear and a baby bottle filled with dirty milk.
Smiley Sam works in the Dark Ride gift shop where he tries to sell severed heads and body part necklaces to visitors walking through the maze. Sam wears a bloodied Castle of Chaos t-shirt, an employee of the month name tag and a sinister smile.
Take a terrifying journey inside the Hayden Hill Sanitarium and into the depths of hell in the Paranormal Inc. maze.
The backstory for Paranormal Inc. finds a team of ghost hunters from a cable TV show investigating a haunted hospital where patients have been tortured for decades by deranged doctors. The evil medical staff prowls the halls looking for new patients while the demonic spirits of their murdered victims haunt the sanitarium.
Introduced in 2015, the maze offers interactive storylines, branching paths and aerial stunts as visitors team up with the ghostbusters from the fictional “Paranormal Inc.” television show.
In years past, the Paranormal Inc. maze has opened with a demonic spectre flying across the lobby of the sanitarium. Other scenes included a mesmerizing spinning red laser that made a funnel in the fog and a hideous animatronic beast that emerged from the mist near a rickety suspension bridge.
Walk through an ancient Japanese temple inhabited by the rotting corpses of disgraced samurai warriors determined to redeem their honor in the Shadow Lands maze.
Introduced in 2016, Shadow Lands follows the backstory of demonic souls of samurai slain on the field of battle who are cursed to rot in the purgatory of Japanese folklore.
In years past, the Shadow Lands maze has begun and ended with graphic beheadings at the hands of sword-wielding samurais. The maze has featured detail set design and aerial rigging with characters focused more on storytelling and atmosphere than startle scares.
Halloween Haunt 2019 will be the final season for Shadow Lands.
Step inside the ominous caverns and eerie tunnels beneath an abandoned port village in The Depths maze where rumor has it vicious creatures dwell.
The backstory for The Depths follows the whispered but never confirmed superstitions and myths surrounding the terrifying horrors that lurk beneath the town. A heavy fog drapes the village where the Nightwatch Mining Crew has mysteriously disappeared inside the pitch-black underground caves hidden below the seaside shores.
Did the Nightwatch crew meet their demise at the hands of the vicious creatures living in the caves? It’s up to us to investigate if the superstitions surrounding the ominous caverns are true or not. But beware: All who enter never resurface.
Climb aboard a space station stranded in the farthest reaches of our galaxy where there’s nowhere to run from a deadly extraterrestrial in the Dark Entities maze.
Dark Entities teleports visitors to a realm of absolute darkness in the farthest reaches of outer space aboard a doomed orbital outpost. The isolated space station has been taken over by a mutating extraterrestrial that grows stronger as it feeds on the humans on board (that’s us). The space monster’s goal: Find a suitable host. There’s no escape in outer space when you’re facing a terror beyond your greatest imagination.
A quaint village is terrorized by the wrath of a sinister Pumpkin Eater creature that haunts the woods at the edge of town in the Pumpkin Eater maze.
Introduced in 2017, Pumpkin Eater challenges visitors to navigate a maze of pumpkins and cornstalks and escape a cave of crawling insects and a labyrinth of thorns.
A new animatronic figure will be added to Pumpkin Eater maze for Halloween Haunt 2019.
Ghost Town Streets
The scare zone that started it all swarms with half-human, half-animal monsters that prowl the streets of Calico Ghost Town. Beware of the Sliders who lunge from the fog-filled corners of the Wild West town and slide across the streets on their hands and knees.
Gothic creatures hidden in the lake beneath the Silver Bullet roller coaster emerge from the murky waters in search of victims to drag back to the dark depths.
Deviant clowns and freak show creatures roam the CarnEvil scare zone in the Boardwalk area of the park.
The fog-filled Hollow scare zone drops visitors into the middle of a battle between the Witches of the Hollow and their army of creatures versus the Witch Hunter that is hot on their trail.
Puppet Up! Uncensored
The outrageous and off–the-cuff new Puppet Up! Uncensored live show will feature improvisational comedy and puppetry performed by puppeteers from the Jim Henson Company. The Jim Henson Company is best known for its work on “Sesame Street” and “The Muppets.”
The zany shenanigans of the show performed by a bawdy and brazen puppet cast will be driven by suggestions from the audience.
With its evisceration of celebrity foibles and follies, “The Hanging” pop-culture comedy revue has been a mainstay at Knott’s Halloween Haunt for decades.
Conjurers: Magic and Mirth
The comedy and magic show in the Bird Cage Theatre will feature award-winning magicians and regulars from Fox’s “Masters of Illusion” reality show.
Awaken the Dead
The dance party in the Fiesta Village features a live DJ spinning high-energy music as the Sugar Skull go-go dancers perform.
The Timber Mountain Log Ride gets a Halloween Hootenanny transformation for Knott’s Scary Farm with appearances by the Green Witch and the Calico Coffin Creeper Band along with a glowing jack-o’-lantern labyrinth.
The separate-admission Time Zombies virtual reality experience in the Boardwalk area of the park sends players back in time to the dark streets of London where they must fend off hordes of the undead.
The Into the Fog art show will feature Spooky Farm-inspired works while the Bizarre Bazaar will sell Halloween-themed souvenirs.
