Residents of Naperville and Aurora need look no further than their own hometowns when looking for things otherworldly.
The two cities are among 10 of the most supernatural cities in Illinois, according to a recent study that assessed the chances of seeing something paranormal.
A report from sports betting company GreatLakesStakes.com revealed people in Illinois reported more than 6,554 sightings — 4,025 UFO and 2,529 ghosts — making state the eighth highest for supernatural activity in America based on data collected from the National UFO Reporting Center and Ghosts of America.
The company then analyzed the figures compared to each state’s population to determine the odds of spotting an apparition or UFO, which in Illinois is +191,000.
The study also looked at the top Illinois cities for paranormal activity.
Aurora ranked fifth in the state with 73 sightings of UFOs or ghost, and Naperville came in at 10th with 51 sightings.
Chicago topped the list with 495 reports, followed by Rockford with 200 and Tinley Park with 169.
Over the last two decades, 28 phenomena in the sky above Naperville — four in 2020 — have been reported to the National UFO Reporting Center. No reports were made about Naperville in 2021 or 2022.
Twenty extraterrestrial anomalies were reported in Aurora over the past 20 years.
The most recent Aurora sighting reported to the UFO center occurred in February when a person observed a triangular-shaped craft with a white light on each corner that vanished after a minute.
California was the state with the most reported UFO encounters, tallying 15,072. It was followed by Florida with 7,513, according to the study. Illinois was ninth overall for UFO sightings.
When it comes to hauntings, the research shows Texas is the most haunted state with 7,382 ghost sightings followed by California with 6,973. Illinois ranked fifth.
The best odds for seeing paranormal activity is in Maine or Vermont.
While the combined UFO and ghost sightings are 1,891 for the northeastern most state and 792 for the Green Mountain State, their smaller populations puts the odds at +71,900 for Maine and +78,600 for Vermont, according to GreatLakesStakes.com.
State where a person is least likely to experience the supernatural is Louisiana, where the odds are +264,400, the report shows.
