A group of paranormal investigators say they were recently spooked by eerie voices telling them to “get out” and “go” at a supposedly haunted Somerset venue. Tony Ferguson, a self-proclaimed ghost hunter, says he and others heard a number of unexplained noises at the “creepy” Westonzoyland Pumping Station on the Somerset Levels.
Dating back to the Victorian times, the facility is Somerset’s earliest steam-powered pumping station. It was an engineering marvel in the 1800s but fell into disrepair in the 20th century, before it was brought back to life in the 1970s and 1980s and is now a popular museum.
However, many people think the old buildings are haunted, and Mr Ferguson, a TikTok “ghost whisperer” from the New Forest, visited the site at night around two months ago to investigate. He says he has visited “hundreds” of supposedly haunted sites across the UK and “documents evidence of things that can’t be explained”.

However, after his recent visit to Westonzoyland, experienced ghost hunter Mr Ferguson revealed to Somerset Live that the pumping station is among his top ten best paranormal places to visit. He said the group heard “several disembodied voices”, as well as hissing, footsteps and other unexplained sounds, leaving those present “on edge”.
“It all kicked off from the moment we got there”, according to Mr Ferguson. He says most of the reported activity happened in an old house next to the main pumping station.
He said: “It is a very old house and is known to be haunted, and I know a gentleman that works there has heard strange things in the museum and in the house. The house in particular feels very creepy.
“We went for an overnight investigation with a group of eight people, some of which were sceptics. I also consider myself a sceptic, I’m level-headed and want to visit these locations with an open mind to see what I can experience.
“However, it all kicked off from the moment we got there. We kept hearing voices – they were saying ‘get out’ and ‘go’.
“When the whole group was downstairs in the house, we heard what sounded like somebody walking up the stairs. When I was doing a vigil alone, I heard a banging sound like something had been thrown across the room.”
You can watch a series of clips below from Mr Ferguson’s TikTok channel reportedly showing his experiences in Westonzoyland (warning – bad language).
Mr Ferguson added: “It just felt very heavy in the house – very creepy. It felt like somebody was trying to make their presence known.
“What was interesting is that everybody in the group heard the noises. Everybody said they felt something in the house.”
