We’ve got our first glimpse of Cheryl hard at work rehearsing for her theatre debut in 2:22 – A Ghost Story.
The performance will be a career first for the Girls Aloud singer, whose other acting roles have been minor, and include playing herself in What To Expect When You’re Expecting and a small role in the 2020 film Four Kids And It.
It’s hard to tell what to expect from the Geordie icon in this bold career move, but what’s for sure is we’re all very excited to see her in the spooky stage play.
Written by ghost enthusiast Danny Robbins – presenter of BBC supernatural podcasts Uncanny and The Battersea Poltergeist – it’s sure to be authentically creepy, as the show premiered in 2021 and was subsequently nominated for three Laurence Olivier Awards.
Directed once again by Matthew Dunster, the show follows Cheryl’s character Jenny, who believes her new home is haunted, while her husband Sam, played by Scott Karim, is slightly more skeptical.
The pictures show Cheryl getting into character in what looked like a heated discussion with on-stage hubby (presumably about ghosts), while she was also snapped drinking many cups of tea – a very British reaction to suspected paranormal activity.
Now in its fifth season, the play is not shy of casting whacky stars (who aren’t strictly actors) as the role of Jenny has previously been occupied by ex Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore, I’m A Celebrity star Giovanna Fletcher and popstar Lily Allen.
Cheryl will be starring in the role from January 21 until April at the Lyric Theatre in London.
The Fight For This Love singer is reportedly raking in £1,000 per night for her efforts – that’s £100,000 for the whole run. Not bad.
Also starring alongside Cheryl in the ghoulish thriller is Hugo Chegwin, who you might recognise from the hilarious BBC series People Just Do Nothing – a mockumentary that follows failed MCs who run dodgy pirate radio station, Kurupt FM, as they try to make it big from a flat in Brentford.
Now, the actors actually tour as Kurupt FM around UK music festivals IRL – win, win.
Maybe Cheryl will follow in her co-star’s footsteps and launch a new career off the back of her Girls Aloud and all-round-music-megastar success…
