Last year many of us found ourselves spending more time at home. That meant noticing a lot of things we normally overlooked.
Has the house always made that noise? Why does that room have strange shadows? Are the cabinet doors supposed to shake like that?
Certainly, many strange instances around your home can be explained away by a home inspector, but some situations lack an easy answer. That’s when it’s time to call in a different kind of inspector.
That’s So Savannah:The uncanny echo of Rousakis Plaza
The Paranormal Investigators of Savannah are dedicated to documenting what haunts the Hostess City and surrounding areas.
Patrick Welsh, the lead investigator and founder of the group, said he’s been interested in what goes bump in the night since his childhood in the Georgetown area.
“There’s a cemetery kind of right before you get to Grove Point Plantation. When we were teenagers, we found it and used to go back there. And these were graves that were from the late 1700s through the 1800s. We would always hear and see things.”
What started out as just a teenage pastime for Welsh slowly morphed into a passion as an adult. Now he and a group of trusted friends and family use modern tools to see if places are truly haunted.
“We try to investigate a lot of places that people don’t typically know about,” said Welsh.
So while you likely won’t find the Paranormal Investigators of Savannah at The Pirates’ House or The Marshall House, you can call them to check out your own home. Welsh said they don’t charge anything for investigations. He said they are also willing to disprove hauntings.
“We’ve been on probably about five home investigations. Only two had actually paranormal activity.”
One of the most unique experiences Welsh has had to date was at the old Savannah Scottish Rite building off of Madison Square. The Savannah College of Art and Design owns it now, but Welsh had a chance to see if the ghost stories surrounding the building were true before it was sold.
“I had several personal experiences there. One of them with the old caretaker that used to work there. When he passed away, we saw him. I saw him a lot of times on the fourth and fifth floors.”
But that wasn’t the only spirit there.
“When I was on the fifth floor, I was up there all by myself. I was waiting on the other guys to get there, and the doors shut by themselves. Something was running across the floor towards me. I freaked out and was running down the hallway to get to the elevator. It seemed like it took forever for that elevator to close.”
If something strange is chasing you down your own hallway or if you simply want to reassure your family that the home isn’t haunted, you can contact the Paranormal Investigators of Savannah through email at firstname.lastname@example.org or through their website at SavannahScare.com.
