Today marks the 17th anniversary of the first time footage of a living giant squid was captured. Though innocuous sounding, this meant that the squid was no longer a zoological myth confined to legends and jars of formaldehyde. It turns out that some myths may have been born because of people describing animals they had never seen before the only way they could.
